Our intervention in Pakistan
In 2024, Pakistan faces a severe humanitarian crisis, with 7.9 million people (22% of the population) experiencing acute food insecurity, according to the World Food Programme (WFP).
Ranked 109th out of 127 countries on the Global Hunger Index, Pakistan struggles with 18% of children malnourished and 40% stunted. Climate shocks, inflation, and floods exacerbate the situation, increasing reliance on aid.
Action Against Hunger (ACF) has been pivotal in addressing these challenges. In 2024, ACF’s mission in Pakistan focused on life-saving interventions and resilience-building efforts, tackling health, nutrition, food security, livelihoods, disaster preparedness, and water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) issues in vulnerable communities. Additionally, ACF implemented a rapid response project to address the urgent medical and nutritional needs of Afghan refugees.
This year, ACF provided 68,442 medical consultations, including essential prenatal and postnatal care for women and children. ACF’s nutrition programs reached nearly 30 000 under five children and women, offering screenings, Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM) treatments, deworming for pregnant women and children, and Mid-Upper Arm Circumference (MUAC) training for caregivers. Furthermore, 1,576 women received psychosocial support and psychological first aid (PFA) to address mental health challenges.
To enhance food security, ACF provided agricultural inputs to 1,080 households (8,640 people) and solar-powered boreholes and irrigation tanks to 800 households (6,400 people). Additionally, multipurpose cash assistance empowered 3,465 vulnerable households (17,168 people).
